888poker have started to close accounts of players from the US that have relocated to Mexico and Canada. Officials from 888 released a short statement on Two Plus Two, however details on the exact reasoning behind the locking of accounts remains a mystery.

The statement released reads:

“We continuously monitor all 888poker accounts and activities and take steps accordingly,” It continued to state, ”In the event you have received an email that you feel is an error, then please contact the support team and you will be answered in due course.”

Reports of the account closures started to arise when US citizens now living in Mexico and Canada started to receive notifications. The email notifications included instructions on how to receive balances but absolutely no reasoning behind the closures. The email went so far as to state, “We ask that you refrain from opening new accounts owned or operated by us, as these too will be closed and no monies refunded.”

It appears that 888poker is not pulling out of the Canadian or Mexican markets making the move even more peculiar. The move may, however, be explained by the sites legalized gambling operations in Delaware and New Jersey and the Bad Actor clause that those licenses hold.
